Use practical image dimensions for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn posts.

Choose the format by destination

Social platforms use different preview shapes. A wide YouTube thumbnail, square Instagram post, vertical story, and LinkedIn post need different output dimensions to avoid awkward cropping.

Using a platform preset is faster than entering width and height manually each time.

Common practical sizes

Useful starting points include 1280 x 720 for YouTube thumbnails, 1080 x 1080 for Instagram square posts, 1080 x 1920 for stories and TikTok covers, 1200 x 630 for Facebook posts, 1600 x 900 for X posts, and 1200 x 627 for LinkedIn posts.

These dimensions are practical publishing defaults, not a guarantee that every platform will display every image identically in every context.

Keep important content away from controls

Vertical stories and video covers often place interface controls near the top, bottom, or side of the image. Keep faces, logos, and text inside the central safe area whenever possible.

IvoryInk's social resizer includes safe-area guides where they are useful so you can check placement before export.

Crop when the subject is strong

Crop to fill is best when the subject can lose a little edge detail. Fit inside is safer when the entire image must remain visible, though it can leave blank space if the ratios do not match.
